The NCAA sponsors a catastrophic injury insurance program for active member institutions. The insurance covers the student-athlete who is catastrophically injured while participating in a covered intercollegiate athletic activity.

The policy has a $90,000 deductible and provides benefits in excess of any other valid and collectible insurance. It is important to understand that a student-athlete’s injury does not have to be catastrophic to be covered by the NCAA catastrophic program. Simply having medical expenses exceeding $90,000 can trigger the program’s coverage.
